EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH SERIES


    The Educational Outreach Series offers quality educational programming for our children at affordable field trip prices.  Critical thinking skills are developed through the use of study guides and question and answer sessions with the artist or group.  Sponsors for the Series include:  US Bank, First National Bank, AEDC Federal Credit Union, Russell Barnett, Coca-Cola Bottling Works, Ray of Hope Center, Thompson Ford, Lewis & Orr Realtors and Worth, Inc.

THE MYSTERY OF KING TUT

Theatreworks' exciting musical tells the stories of Tutankhamen, the "boy king" who ruled Egypt in the 14th century, B.C., and Howard Carter, the archeologyis who made him famous by discovering his tomb in 1922. The playright uses a bit of story telling to fill in historical gaps. The result is a compelling tale, filled with moving lyrics and melodies, of two men looking to leave their marks on history in two very different worlds. Their names will be forever linked in history.

The Second Tullahoma Intertribal Native American Indian Festival

Come see the real deal -- Native Americans from all over the United States will meet on the grounds of South Jackson Civic Center to bring us a taste of their culture. There will be demonstrations on flintnapping, weaving, tanning & basketweaving, an Indian Encampment, as well as performances of dance, drum, storytellers, puppeteers, and instrumentals. Bring a sack lunch while you enjoy the shows or purchase Native American food from vendors. Bring a little extra money (special prices on education days). All ages.

The Nutcracker Fantasy

The South Jackson Civic Association proudly presents this locally-produced ballet with the great highlights of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Ballet. Enter the holiday season with the sugar plum fairies. All ages.

Mark Twain

Join actor Ron Jewell  as he transports you to the life of the boy Samuel L. Clemens born in Hannibal, Missouri, through river boat worker (where he adopted the moniker, "Mark Twain") to his varied careers as newspaperman, printer, and author. Twain was the most famous American of his day and remains a universally revered writer today. Jewell uses excerpts from Twain's private letter collection, as well as from of some of his greatest works, including Roughing It, Life on the Mississippi, Tom Sawyer, and Huck Finn. Students will witness his transformation from actor to character prior to the show and he will also answer questions at the conclusion. Grades 4 through 12.

Huck Finn's Story

Huck Finn's Story -- the escape from his drunken father and befriending a runaway slave -- is an adventure tale of excitement and suspense, delightfully sprinkled with homespun humor. The play reveals Huck as a clever, lovable boy, who is baffled by the greed, hypocrisy and absurdity of society. During his long journey down the Mississippi River, he grows up within as well. The Actors Co-op of Knoxville, TN will present this play through a minimal approach, encouraging young audiences to use their imaginations to weave this legendary tale, while entertaining them with songs and storytelling. Grades K through 8.

The Wright Stuff

Barely out of their teens, two plucky bicycle mechanics team with their studious sister to out-invent the world's top scientists and achieve the timeless dream of flight. From their tiny workshop in Ohio, Orville and Wilbur Wright travel to North Carolina and launch the first powered, sustained, and controlled flight of an airplane, changing the world forever. This production is brought to you by Theatre IV from Cincinnatii. Grades 3-12.
