The Floyd and Margaret Mitchell Museum is located in the northwest wing of the South Jackson Civic Center in a series of former school class rooms.  It is a museum of local history and provides exhibits that pertain to city and county history. The museum is open the first Sunday of each month from 1pm to 4pm. It is also open during most Civic Center and Playhouse events, and by special appointment.
The Mitchell Museum was dedicated in the mid eighties. With a monetary donation from the Mitchell family, plans were finalized for the establishment of a museum housing items and artifacts of local heritage.
The museum houses items on our Native American heritage, local Civil War history, World War II and Camp Forrest memorabilia and photos of Tullahoma through the many years of change.  Exhibits from various industries can also be found.
Growing Up in Tullahoma—Life During World War II on the Home Front is a traveling trunk exhibit that is available for static display at businesses and for teaching exhibits at schools. For the school demonstrations, a static display can be used or a demonstrator is available to discuss items in the trunk during a class period. The traveling trunk is sponsored in part by First National Bank of Tullahoma.
If you wish to donate or loan an item to the museum, please contact the South Jackson Civic Association office at 455-5321 or email sjcc@southjackson.org.  You may also contact Museum Chairman, Blossom Merryman by email at mschockley@charter.net.
