One of the darkest musicals ever written, Sweeney Todd: A Musical Thriller is the unsettling tale of a Victorian-era barber who returns home to London after fifteen years of exile to take revenge on the corrupt judge who ruined his life. When revenge eludes him, Sweeney swears vengeance on the entire human race, murdering as many people as he can, while his business associate Mrs. Lovett bakes the bodies into meat pies and sells them to the unsuspecting public. Perhaps composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim’s most perfect score, Sweeney Todd is lush, operatic, and full of soaring beauty, pitch-black comedy and stunning terror.

In this riotously funny Southern-fried comedy, the three Verdeen cousins—Gaynelle, Peaches and Jimmie Wyvette—could not have picked a worse time to throw their family reunion. Their outrageous antics have delighted local gossips in the small town of Sweetgum (just down the road from Fayro) and the eyes of Texas are upon them, as their self-righteous Aunt LaMerle is quick to point out.Things spin hilariously out of control when  a one-eyed suitor shows up to declare his love and a jaw-dropping high-stakes wager is made on who bakes the best red velvet cake. As this fast-paced romp barrels toward its uproarious climax, you’ll wish your own family reunions were this much fun!

An old beggar woman knocks at a castle door and asks to be sheltered for the night in exchange for a single red rose. Repulsed, the prince turned her away, despite her warning “not to be deceived by appearances, for beauty is found within.” Suddenly, the haggard old woman transformed into a beautiful enchantress. Shocked, the prince tried to apologize for his behavior, but she had seen the ugliness in his heart. As a punishment, she cast a spell over him and his castle. He was transformed into a hideous beast, and she left him with a magic mirror as his only connection to the outside world. She also left him with the rose she had offered, and warned that if he did not learn to love another and be loved in return before the last petal fell, the spell, and his hideous new form, would remain forever.
