Alumni
Friends of Tullahoma:
I am writing today to ask for your help. When I returned to Tullahoma after be-ing away almost 40 years, I was excited to see my old elementary school again during last fall’s Veterans Day celebration. Much of the inside of the school re-mains the way it was when I attended there in the 1960s and today my old schoolhouse lives on as the South Jackson Civic Center, thanks to the forward-looking ideas of a small group of concerned citizens who saved the school from abandonment and ultimate destruction. And, even though the inside has been re-purposed as a center for the performing arts as well as a museum, the exte-rior still has the same general grandness I remember. I would like to keep it that way.
So, this is a call to action. If you are a former pupil/teacher/administrator, have performed on the stage or supported a production in the last 35+ years, I
am asking you to join our alumni association for the purpose of preserving and protecting the memory of South Jackson as an institution. There is a minimal cost for membership—just $10–but there is a catch: I will be asking for your time and talent on occasion (and yes, I may be asking for your pocketbook once and awhile). As the building continues to age, the collective wisdom of our group will be needed to solve the complex problems associated with extending the life of one of the oldest landmarks in our community.
I look forward to hearing from you.
President, South Jackson Alumni Association
